Emergency services and the public praised for swift action after car ploughs into crowd at Liverpool parade.

Emergency services and members of the public have received widespread praise for their rapid response following a distressing incident in Liverpool on Monday evening, when a car was driven into a crowd shortly after the city’s Premier League victory parade.

The crash occurred as celebrations concluded, injuring 27 people—including four children—with two suffering serious injuries, one of them a child.

At a press conference that evening, Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims praised all those who quickly assisted the injured, calling the incident “shocking” and confirming it had been declared a major incident.

“This was a joyful day for Liverpool, with hundreds of thousands lining the streets to celebrate Liverpool FC’s win,” she said. “Sadly, a number of people were hurt and taken to hospital, while many others received treatment at the scene.”

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle highlighted the swift actions of fire crews, who freed four people trapped under a vehicle before handing them over to paramedics.

A 53-year-old man from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of being the driver involved. Police believe the incident to be isolated and have ruled out terrorism.
