“Great Chance” – Liverpool Star Acknowledges Saudi Club Discussions

The prolonged uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future and a potential move to Saudi Arabia has finally been resolved — but only after he came close to a major career shift.

Earlier in the season, the Liverpool forward was the subject of intense transfer rumors, largely due to ambiguity around his contract status at Anfield.

Although Salah eventually signed a new two-year extension with Liverpool in April, he has now revealed that a switch to the Saudi Pro League was a serious possibility.

Interest from Saudi Arabia wasn’t new. In August 2023, Al Ittihad submitted a massive £150 million offer, which Liverpool promptly rejected.

Despite the setback, the Saudi Pro League remained persistent, continuing to pursue the 32-year-old as a potential marquee signing.

Now, with Salah’s future secured at Liverpool and a league title added to his resume, the Egyptian forward has confirmed that he was indeed involved in talks over a Saudi move.

Speaking to On Sport, Salah said: “I genuinely considered the Saudi League as a good option. If I hadn’t renewed my contract with Liverpool, I might have gone there.

“My relationship with people in Saudi Arabia remains strong. There were serious negotiations to bring me over.

“Liverpool fans played a role in the contract extension – they put pressure on the club, especially since I’ve been here for seven years.

“From the beginning, I felt they wanted me to stay.”

Salah capped off a phenomenal Premier League campaign by being named Player of the Season and collecting both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards.

It’s been his best individual season yet, underlining how crucial it was for Liverpool to keep him.

With 34 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, Salah’s contributions would have been incredibly difficult to replace.

Once his new deal expires, a move to Saudi Arabia could still be on the cards, offering him the chance to join the growing league in the Middle East.
