Following Chelsea’s impressive 4-1 comeback win over Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final on Wednesday night at Stadion Wrocław, a significant development has surfaced regarding Jadon Sancho’s future at the club.

Sancho, 25, came off the bench in the 61st minute and made an impact by scoring Chelsea’s third goal in the 83rd minute—capping off what has been a promising loan spell from Manchester United. Since joining Chelsea at the start of the season, Sancho has contributed five goals and 10 assists across 41 appearances in all competitions.

Despite flashes of his talent, The Guardian reports that Chelsea are leaning toward not exercising the £25 million option to sign him permanently. If the decision is made to return Sancho to Old Trafford, the club would reportedly need to pay a £5 million penalty clause.

Former Chelsea player Joe Cole, speaking after the final, expressed his support for Sancho staying at the club. “He’s been rotated in and out, but I want to see Jadon playing. You want a player like that in your squad,” Cole said. “It will probably come down to finances, but I really like him. He’s rebuilt his career at Chelsea and I think there’s more to come from him.”
