Insider reveals Florian Wirtz’s arrival won’t affect Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle star.

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on three summer signings — Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz — as Arne Slot looks to shape his squad for next season. However, their transfer activity may not stop there, with the club also exploring the possibility of adding another attacker.

One such target is Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, a player Liverpool have admired for some time. Despite interest from Arsenal and Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League, Gordon could still leave this summer — and Liverpool are believed to be in a strong position should that happen.

According to former scout Mick Brown, Gordon remains firmly on Liverpool’s radar. “He’s been a top target for a while. He’s a local lad, formerly at Everton, and Liverpool know him well,” Brown told Football Insider. He added that while a deal for Wirtz is progressing, it won’t rule out a move for Gordon. With the potential departures of players like Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo, or Darwin Núñez, room could open up in the squad for Gordon.

“If those players stay, Liverpool might not need both Gordon and Wirtz. But if they move on, Gordon is seriously being considered as a direct replacement,” Brown noted.

Newcastle, however, are not under any financial pressure to sell and view Gordon as a key player. Even so, there remains optimism that the England international could make the switch to Anfield this summer.
