Liverpool may soon see progress in their pursuit of Marc Guehi, as the transfer saga could be approaching a conclusion this summer.

Currently, the Reds have Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Giovanni Leoni as central defensive options. While Konate and Gomez are both strong players, recent struggles with form and fitness have highlighted the need for reinforcements. Adding Guehi from Crystal Palace would significantly bolster Liverpool’s depth ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Liverpool are ready to offer more than £30 million to secure the England international’s services. Guehi is reportedly eager to join Arne Slot’s squad before the transfer window shuts on September 1, with personal terms not expected to be an obstacle.

The ball is now in Crystal Palace’s court. With Guehi’s contract expiring next year, this may be their final chance to receive a transfer fee. Chairman Steve Parish has previously signaled that selling would be the preferable route, particularly after already losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

However, manager Oliver Glasner appears reluctant to part with the defender. In a recent press conference, he stressed Guehi’s importance to the team, saying, “From my side, he has to stay,” noting that finding a ready-made Premier League replacement would be difficult. His phrasing, however, suggests the final decision may not lie solely with him.

Jaydee Canvot, identified by Ben Jacobs as a long-term successor to Guehi, may not be viewed as an immediate solution.

Ultimately, if Liverpool are willing to raise their offer above £30 million, it could be enough to persuade Palace’s leadership to sanction the move rather than risk losing Guehi for free next summer.
