Liverpool boss Arne Slot has officially named Andy Robertson as the club’s new vice-captain, stepping into the role after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s summer departure.
Slot made the announcement simply, saying: “It’s Robbo.”
He went on to explain the reasoning: “He’s been at the club for many years and has already won the league twice. Last season, the leadership group included Virgil, Trent, Robbo, and Mo [Salah]. With Trent gone, there were clear reasons for choosing him.”
Slot praised Robertson not just for his footballing ability and experience but also for his influence off the pitch: “He plays a lot, understands the culture of the team and the club, and is an important figure in the dressing room. His presence is part of the strong culture we inherited from Jürgen Klopp — something I believe should continue for whoever comes after me.”
Robertson, who joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, has racked up 344 appearances and captained the team on seven previous occasions. As one of the longest-serving players at the club, the Scotland international’s promotion reflects both his seniority and leadership qualities.
