Liverpool passed up the chance to sign a two-time Champions League winner this summer.

According to Anfield Index, Real Madrid winger Rodrygo was considered a potential target for the Reds, with his representatives actively pushing for a move to Anfield. However, Liverpool chose not to pursue serious negotiations.

As defending Premier League champions, Liverpool brought in Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, as manager Arne Slot undertook a significant squad overhaul following major departures.

Key players like Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Jarell Quansah left, compelling the club to make strategic moves in the transfer market.

Slot was decisive about the players he wanted and, in pursuit of his goals, turned down the opportunity to sign Rodrygo, despite his representatives offering the Brazilian attacker.

Lewis Steele from the Daily Mail, speaking to Anfield Index, confirmed Liverpool’s refusal to sign Rodrygo.

“Rodrygo’s camp was definitely pushing for a Liverpool move, but the club wasn’t interested,” Steele said.

This decision reflects Liverpool’s long-term vision under sporting director Richard Hughes. The club isn’t chasing quick fixes or headlines but is focused on building a balanced squad with lasting potential.
