Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool “will have the opportunity” to finalize an agreement with the 26-year-old star.

Liverpool had a successful summer transfer window overall, but not all of their targets were secured. A move for Marc Guehi fell through at the last moment, and questions still surround the future of defender Ibrahima Konate.

With Konate entering the final year of his contract, he’ll be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with other clubs from January. One such club is Real Madrid, who continue to show interest in the French international.

Real Madrid Monitoring as Liverpool Plan Konate Contract Talks

Earlier reports this week claimed that Konate turned down Liverpool’s most recent contract offer. However, there’s still optimism within the club that he might commit his long-term future to Anfield. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano stated that Liverpool still have time to secure a new deal before Real Madrid can make a move in January.

> “Real Madrid are genuinely monitoring Ibrahima Konate’s situation, but they’re not looking to create tension with Liverpool. The Reds will definitely have opportunities in September, October, November, and December to try and renew his contract,” Romano said.

The outcome of Konate’s situation will be closely watched. Liverpool are keen to avoid a repeat of the uncertainty that surrounded Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this year. For now, though, the door remains open — a scenario that continues to frustrate club officials.
