The Dutch manager praised the England international but emphasized that Liverpool still have strong defensive options.
“Of course we wanted to sign him — we were definitely in for him. But if you look at how Virgil and Ibou performed against Arsenal, and Joe’s impact off the bench, it’s clear we have quality. Plus, we’ve signed Giovanni Leoni, who just earned his first international call-up, and we’ve got Ryan and Wata who can play there too. We’re not lacking depth.”

Journalist Paul Joyce has reported that Liverpool may wait until next summer to pursue Guehi again — potentially on a free transfer. However, Real Madrid are also reportedly monitoring the situation, which could lead to stiff competition.
