Crystal Palace Await Injury Update on Yeremy Pino Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Crystal Palace are anxiously awaiting the outcome of a medical assessment on winger Yeremy Pino ahead of their Premier League showdown with Liverpool this Saturday.

The match at Selhurst Park will see the league’s only two unbeaten teams go head-to-head, in a rematch of last month’s Community Shield, which Palace won on penalties at Wembley.

The fixture also marks the first meeting between the two clubs since Palace pulled out of a £35 million deadline day deal to send Marc Guehi to Liverpool, despite earlier reaching an agreement.

Pino a Doubt After Knee Issue Against West Ham

Palace’s 2-1 win at West Ham last weekend was overshadowed by Pino’s forced substitution at half-time due to knee discomfort. Manager Oliver Glasner provided an update, stating (via the Evening Standard): “He had pain in his knee. We don’t know exactly what it is, so we’ll assess him, and I think we’ll have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious, but he couldn’t continue playing.”

The club is now waiting to see if the £26 million summer signing from Villarreal will be fit in time for Saturday’s key fixture.

Sarr Nearing Return, Boosting Palace’s Attack

In more positive news for Palace, winger Ismaila Sarr is expected to return to training this week following a hamstring injury. His comeback could be timely, especially if Pino is ruled out.

Although Pino has yet to open his account for Palace, his 14 goal contributions for Villarreal last season show his attacking quality. Losing him would be a setback for Glasner’s side.

Sarr, meanwhile, has a strong track record against Liverpool. The Senegalese forward has scored in both meetings with the Reds this year and famously bagged a brace for Watford in their 2019/20 win that ended Liverpool’s long unbeaten run. Only one club has conceded more goals to him.

Regardless of whether it’s Pino or Sarr who lines up on the wing, Liverpool can expect a tough test from a Palace side whose strong start to the season has quietly turned heads.
