Ex-Liverpool defender set to wear red once more as Dortmund clash approaches

Liverpool’s annual charity match is starting to take shape, and the latest update suggests it will be bigger than just a star-studded lineup.
The club has announced five more former players for the March Legends match at Anfield, according to Liverpool FC Foundation. Sami Hyypia will don red once again when Liverpool faces Borussia Dortmund Legends on Saturday, March 28, 2026, with proceeds supporting the club’s official charity.
Hyypia, who made 464 appearances over ten years, scored 35 goals and was part of the 2005 Champions League-winning side. He will be joined by Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Martin Kelly, and Yossi Benayoun, all of whom have featured in previous Legends matches.
More than nostalgia:
The match raises funds for the LFC Foundation and Forever Reds, supporting programmes in employability, education, and mentoring. The Foundation aims to assist 500,000 people per season by 2030.
Aurelio’s return celebrates Liverpool’s first-ever Brazilian signing, Vignal is remembered for his goal in the 2024 Legends game against Ajax, while Kelly and Benayoun were part of the side that beat Chelsea Legends earlier this season—emphasizing the competitive nature of the fixture. They will join Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina, and Sander Westerveld in goal. Kick-off is set for 3pm GMT at Anfield.
