Milos Kerkez gives a classy response to a Liverpool fan’s apology following the win over Marseille

Milos Kerkez delivered an eye-catching performance as Liverpool cruised to a 3–0 victory over Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Hungarian left-back was handed a start at the Stade Vélodrome and completed the full match as Arne Slot’s side produced a dominant display. Liverpool went into half-time ahead thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s clever free-kick, before extending their lead late on through a Gerónimo Rulli own goal. Cody Gakpo sealed the win in stoppage time.

After the final whistle, Kerkez took to social media to respond to a Liverpool supporter who had publicly apologised for previously doubting him.

Despite arriving at Anfield in a £40 million move from Bournemouth last summer, the defender initially struggled to make his mark and faced criticism for his early performances. Expectations were high, but his adaptation period proved challenging.

In recent months, however, Kerkez has hit top form, producing a string of impressive displays and cementing his place in the starting XI — even with Scotland captain and two-time Premier League winner Andy Robertson competing for the same position.

One fan who admitted they had misjudged him was X user @Corballyred, who wrote after the Marseille win:
“Accept my apologies Milos Kerkez. I was way too quick to judge you. I can see now why you were voted the best left back in the Premier League last season.”
Kerkez spotted the message and replied:
“It’s ok bro, critics give me even more fuel.”
The supporter responded by praising his recent form and admitting they had been won over.

Speaking before the match, Kerkez acknowledged that it took time to settle at Liverpool and credited the support around him for his improvement. He explained that joining one of the world’s biggest clubs required patience, but felt his performances had improved significantly over the past month — while stressing he still wants more.

He also highlighted the influence of Robertson, describing him as a club legend and saying it was a privilege to learn alongside such an experienced and decorated player.

Liverpool are next in action on Saturday, January 24, when they head to the south coast to face Bournemouth — Kerkez’s former club.
