Pep Guardiola has already conducted crisis talks with Manchester City regarding the possibility of relegation.

Pep Guardiola reportedly received assurances that Manchester City would prevail in their ongoing legal battle with the Premier League and avoid relegation before committing to a contract extension until 2027.

The club has been under investigation for 10 weeks by an independent tribunal tasked with examining nearly 130 allegations of providing inaccurate financial information and non-cooperation during a probe. City remains confident in their ability to prove their innocence, a belief reflected in Guardiola’s decision to extend his stay beyond a decade.

According to The Mirror, insiders view Guardiola’s new contract as a sign of optimism about the case’s outcome. Despite this, Guardiola has publicly vowed to honor his contract even if the club is found guilty and faces relegation.

The Catalan manager places full trust in chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and CEO Ferran Soriano, expecting a favorable ruling from the tribunal. Under Guardiola’s leadership, City has won six of the last seven Premier League titles and secured a historic treble two seasons ago. However, recent performances, including a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham, highlight the need for squad reinforcements.

To address this, City plans to back new sporting director Hugo Viana with significant funds in the summer transfer window. Guardiola, with his new deal, aims to oversee this rebuild and push forward with his long-term plans.

“I cannot leave. Maybe the four defeats were the reason why I felt I cannot leave. Since the beginning of the season, I was thinking a lot about this being my last one. But with the challenges we’ve faced recently, I felt now was not the time to go. I don’t want to let the club down.

“I felt the confidence of the chairman, Txiki (Begiristain), and everyone, and I knew I had to stay.”
