Following City’s 4-0 home loss to Tottenham, Liverpool has the opportunity to extend their lead to eight points at the top. Although Arsenal triumphed 3-0 over Nottingham Forest, they are still a point behind City. If Liverpool wins both their upcoming matches, they will move 11 points clear of City with over a third of the season completed.

“Liverpool away is a huge game next weekend for Man City,” Shearer said on Match of the Day. “For the first time, I’d have real concerns about them. I’m seeing too many worrying signs. If Liverpool wins on Sunday and again next week, it would be very tough for City.”

Liverpool has not lost to Manchester City at Anfield with fans present since 2003. Last season, despite John Stones giving City the lead, Alexis Mac Allister equalized from the penalty spot for Liverpool.

Guardiola reflected on his team’s struggles after the Spurs defeat, saying, “People say it can’t get worse—but it can. The exceptional achievements of the past eight years aren’t everlasting. I said how difficult it was to achieve what we’ve done—and now people might understand me.”
