Roy Keane was involved in a heated exchange with an Ipswich Town fan following their draw with Manchester United at Portman Road. Keane, attending as a Sky Sports pundit for two of his former clubs, had previously won seven Premier League titles with United and managed Ipswich from 2009 to 2011, a tenure that saw him win 28 of 81 matches but strained his relationship with a significant portion of the fanbase.

The confrontation occurred during an ad break, as shown in footage shared by the Daily Mail. Keane, visibly irritated, placed his microphone down, put his hands in his pockets, and approached a fan who had been shouting abuse. After a brief exchange, he returned to the panel area and calmly resumed his role. Reports indicated that a fan had rushed down from the upper tier to shout, “F*** you Keane!” at him. In a separate video, another supporter was heard mocking Keane’s managerial record, saying, “You’re a better pundit than you are a manager!” Keane replied, “I’ll wait for you in the car park, and we can discuss it,” as security intervened. Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp was also seen telling fans to “Just leave it.”

This isn’t the first time Keane has faced hostility during punditry. In June, a man was convicted of common assault after allegedly headbutting Keane at the Emirates Stadium during Arsenal’s win over Manchester United in September 2023. Keane, who reported bruising on his arms and chest, described being “in shock” after the incident. His colleague, Micah Richards, intervened to protect him. The assailant, Scott Law, received a 12-month community order, a three-year football ban, and fines totaling £764.
