Ipswich fan explains what sparked heated clash with Man Utd legend Roy Keane

Manchester United legend Roy Keane found himself in a heated altercation with an Ipswich Town fan during a break in Sky Sports coverage. The incident occurred after Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Portman Road in Ruben Amorim’s debut match as United manager. Marcus Rashford’s early goal had been canceled out by Omari Hutchinson’s deflected strike.

Keane, who has ties to both clubs and was working as a pundit for Sky Sports, confronted a fan during the ad break. Footage shared by the Daily Mail showed Keane removing his microphone and approaching the front row after being subjected to verbal abuse. In one video, Keane is heard telling the fan, “I’ll wait for you in the car park and we can discuss it!” Security and stewards intervened, and Keane eventually returned to his position, with fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp urging fans to “just leave it.”

The fan, later identified as Neil Finbow, posted his version of the encounter on Facebook. He claimed, “New claim to fame. Just been offered out into the car park by Roy Keane after a few choice words. Even Jamie Redknapp had to come over to get him away. Just your average Sunday evening out.” Finbow alleged that he criticized Keane’s managerial tenure at Ipswich, saying, “I reminded him that he set us back five years and ruined our football club. I also mentioned how he wasn’t fit to step foot anywhere near our ground.”

Finbow further admitted referencing Keane’s infamous departure from Ireland’s 2002 World Cup squad, his challenge on Alf-Inge Haaland, and his subsequent autobiography. The fan’s grievances date back to Keane’s time managing Ipswich from 2009 to 2011, where he won only 28 of 81 games and left the team struggling near the bottom of the Championship. Since his sacking, Keane has not returned to management, instead focusing on punditry and assistant coaching roles.
