Ruben Amorim reportedly gave Manchester United players a rating out of 10 for their performance in his first match as manager, a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. Marcus Rashford’s goal within 80 seconds was canceled out by Omari Hutchinson, and United struggled to adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system after limited time in training. Andre Onana made several crucial saves to secure a point for the Red Devils, who remain 12th in the Premier League.

According to The Sun, Amorim rated the team’s performance a five out of ten, expressing frustration with a few players for losing possession and positional errors. However, he acknowledged the limited preparation time and remained calm about the challenges ahead. A dressing room source stated, “He was realistic, noting that some players he’d only worked with for two days, others for two weeks. He emphasized the need to improve quickly.”

In his Premier League debut, Amorim made some notable tactical choices, such as using Amad Diallo as a right wing-back, deploying Marcus Rashford as a central striker, and positioning Noussair Mazraoui as a center-back in a three-man defense. Jonny Evans started on the left of the backline but was replaced by Luke Shaw in the second half.

Reflecting on the match, Amorim said: “They tried to implement what we worked on, which is the most important point. There’s a lot to improve, but their effort to apply the principles was clear. They were overthinking at times due to the limited training sessions, but that’s natural.”

He also acknowledged Ipswich’s intensity and praised Onana’s key saves, adding, “We could have won, but it’s always tough in this league. We’ll improve in the future.”

Amorim’s next test comes in the Europa League on Thursday, when United host Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford.
