Ruben Amorim reacts to Ed Sheeran’s unexpected interruption during a Sky Sports interview, with some likening his response to Roy Keane’s demeanor.

Ruben Amorim has addressed the incident involving Ed Sheeran, who was accused of rudely interrupting his Sky Sports interview following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday.

After managing his first game as United boss, Amorim joined Sky Sports for a pitchside interview, which was briefly disrupted by Sheeran, a devoted Ipswich supporter and investor in the club. The singer greeted Jamie Redknapp on camera, prompting criticism for his perceived lack of etiquette.

Amorim appeared visibly annoyed during the exchange, with Sheeran remarking, “I don’t think he [Amorim] wants to speak to me.” Following backlash, Sheeran apologized on Instagram, explaining he hadn’t realized Amorim was being interviewed and was only stopping by to greet Redknapp.

Amorim, who looked unimpressed at the time, reportedly expressed his desire for fewer media obligations in the future and discussed the matter with United’s communications team. However, speaking ahead of United’s Europa League clash against Bodo/Glimt, the 39-year-old downplayed the situation.

“In Portugal, things like this don’t happen; it’s so different,” Amorim said in his press conference. “I think you [in England] sometimes overcomplicate things. It was nothing—just someone saying hello to a commentator. I was focused on the game.”

Amorim added humor to the discussion, saying, “I was with Roy Keane, and Roy Keane was the real star of that panel! For me, it was really okay—nothing special.”
