Jamie Carragher revises his Premier League prediction for Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s appointment.

Jamie Carragher has admitted he misjudged Manchester United’s Premier League prospects, calling it the “biggest mistake” in his pre-season predictions.

During an August episode of Monday Night Football with Gary Neville, the former Liverpool defender initially predicted United, then led by Erik ten Hag, would finish fifth, with Spurs overtaking them for a top-four spot. Carragher criticized United’s transfer strategy, saying: “They’re buying younger players now, but this isn’t revolutionary. Sir Matt Busby did this in the ’60s. I think they’ll compete but miss out.”

Since then, significant changes have unfolded at Old Trafford. Ten Hag was sacked, and Ruben Amorim has stepped in, debuting with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich.

Now revising his stance, Carragher expressed doubts about United’s ability to secure even a top-six finish. Speaking on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, he said: “Placing United fifth was my biggest mistake. I’d be very surprised if they finish in the top six.”
