A Manchester United star postponed contract negotiations with the club reportedly due to issues in their relationship with Erik ten Hag.

A Manchester United player reportedly delayed signing a new contract due to his relationship with Erik ten Hag, according to reports.

Ten Hag, 54, departed the club on October 29 following a poor run of form, despite leading United to an FA Cup victory in the 2023/24 season. Since his departure, 39-year-old Ruben Amorim has taken over as head coach and overseen a positive shift in form, with United winning two of their first three matches under his guidance.

Optimism is growing at Old Trafford, and one standout performance came during United’s 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday. Amad, 22, impressed with two assists in the match, earning praise from Amorim.

“He has a lot of talent but lacks physical size,” Amorim commented. “He did a great job, but there’s room for improvement. He defended well and attacked brilliantly, but we need to manage his physical development as he builds his stamina.”

Amad’s current contract with United is set to expire in June 2025, though the club holds an option to extend it for an additional season, which must be triggered before January.

According to The Telegraph, contract discussions are expected to resume soon. Journalist Fabrizio Romano noted on his YouTube channel that Amad’s relationship with Ten Hag had impacted earlier negotiations.

“Between September and October, Erik ten Hag wasn’t giving Amad much playing time, which made it a challenging period for him,” Romano explained. “This also affected contract talks, as the coaching staff seemed not to trust him, and Amad wants regular playing time. However, Ruben Amorim is a big fan of Amad, which could change things moving forward.”
