Liverpool fans express concern over a player’s performance following the match against Girona.
Liverpool fans were left frustrated with one player despite a Champions League win over Girona on Tuesday night.
The Reds secured their sixth consecutive victory in the competition, maintaining their position at the top of the group, thanks to Mo Salah’s second-half penalty. Arne Slot’s side continues to impress, with memorable wins over Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen making them one of the tournament favorites.
However, despite the hard-fought victory in Catalonia, striker Darwin Núñez’s underwhelming performance drew heavy criticism. The Uruguayan, now in his third season, struggled to convert chances, frequently mishandling the ball and leaving supporters disappointed with his lack of clinical finishing. Fans are now eagerly anticipating Diogo Jota’s return from injury to bolster the attack.
One fan commented, “Darwin Núñez has been so wasteful again. So many heavy touches and misplaced passes.”
Another added, “It’s baffling how Núñez gets into great positions but never lifts his head to spot the goalkeeper before shooting.”
Some expressed more frustration, with one writing, “Why are people still defending this guy? I’m done.”
Another fumed, “I’m absolutely sick of watching Darwin Núñez play for Liverpool.”
Fans also drew harsh comparisons, with one stating, “Núñez just delivered two performances against Newcastle and Girona as bad as anything we saw from Lambert, Borini, or Carroll. He needs a long spell on the bench.” Another vented, “He cost over £80 million. Enough with the ‘captain chaos’ nonsense—just do your job.”
Liverpool return to Premier League action this weekend against Fulham, looking to extend their lead at the top of the table after Arsenal’s draw with Fulham and Chelsea’s win
over Spurs.
