The investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault against Kylian Mbappe has been closed following a police inquiry.

The investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault involving Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been closed due to insufficient evidence.

The 25-year-old was informed that no further action would be taken following an incident linked to his stay at a Stockholm hotel in October after being left out of France’s squad. Swedish media had connected Mbappe to the alleged incident, though he was never officially named by prosecutors or notified as a suspect.

On Sunday, Mbappe addressed the matter publicly for the first time, telling French TV show Clique: “I haven’t received anything, no summons… I’m not involved.” Stockholm prosecutor Marina Chirakova later confirmed the case’s closure, stating: “During the investigation, a person was suspected on reasonable grounds of rape and two cases of sexual assault. However, the evidence is insufficient to proceed, and the investigation is therefore closed. The individual was not notified of any suspicion.”

Mbappe’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, declined to comment but previously stated that her client was “stunned” by media reports naming him as a suspect. She added, “[Kylian] is never alone and not in situations where he could take such risks.”

Reports indicated the alleged victim claimed an attack occurred in Mbappe’s eighth-floor suite at the Bank Hotel. Police were seen at the hotel collecting evidence. Mbappe denied the allegations, labeling them as “fake news” on X (formerly Twitter), but admitted to consensual sex with someone he had met at a nightclub in Stockholm, followed by positive text exchanges the next morning.

The French forward reiterated his denial during an interview with Canal+, saying: “I was surprised and still am. These things come out of nowhere. It’s incomprehensible. I never saw myself involved in this.”

Mbappe had traveled to Stockholm with friends during a break from international duty after being excluded from France’s Nations League matches. Despite a challenging start to his Real Madrid career, he has scored 12 goals in 22 appearances since joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain.
