Manchester United fans erupt after a transfer expert teases a major signing for the January window.

A respected journalist has provided an update on Manchester United’s pursuit of a highly-rated Serie A midfielder, sparking excitement among fans.

United manager Ruben Amorim, 39, has yet to make any signings since joining the club in November. Earlier this week, reports from the Mail suggested that most of United’s squad could be available for transfer in January if suitable offers arise. However, the club considers two key players as “untouchable” and intends to keep them.

The Red Devils have also been linked with re-signing a former academy graduate to strengthen their left-back options. Amorim’s 3-4-3 system has required several players to adapt to unfamiliar roles recently, with Diogo Dalot playing as a left wingback and captain Bruno Fernandes operating in a deeper midfield position during Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen.

Despite having a well-stocked midfield—including summer signing Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Fernandes, and Mason Mount—Amorim could look to bring in an in-form Brazilian to enhance his squad.

In November, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that United were “discussing and considering” Atalanta midfielder Ederson, a key player for the Europa League winners. A potential deal could materialize as early as the January transfer window. On Friday, Plettenberg reposted his earlier report with a tick and downward arrow emoji, hinting at progress.

Fans have expressed excitement about the 25-year-old’s potential arrival. One fan commented, “He’s not a typical deep-lying midfielder but stays ahead of the play. Get it done, Man Utd!” Another simply wrote, “Please let this be true.”

Ederson has been instrumental in Atalanta’s recent success, making 53 appearances last season and helping the team secure the Europa League title, reach the Italian Cup final, and finish fourth in Serie A. This season, he has already made 21 appearances, with Atalanta currently leading Serie A.

With a contract running until 2027 and a Transfermarkt valuation of €40m (£33.2m), Ederson could attract competition from Manchester City, who are also reportedly considering him to address their mid

field issues.
