Sky journalist provides significant Liverpool transfer update on potential swap deal involving £90m Real Madrid star.

Respected Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has addressed speculation surrounding Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have enjoyed an excellent start to the 24/25 season, sitting at the top of both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. Their only loss so far came in a surprising 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

As the January transfer window approaches, recent reports had suggested that Real Madrid were considering a swap deal involving Aurelien Tchouameni and Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch. Tchouameni, valued at £90 million and contracted to Madrid until 2028, was linked with a potential exchange for Gravenberch, valued at approximately £33 million.

However, Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has dismissed these rumors. According to Plettenberg, Gravenberch is not considering leaving Liverpool, and the club has no plans to entertain such a swap deal. He wrote:

“Ryan Gravenberch is currently not considering leaving Liverpool. The 22-year-old is a key performer and a leading player for the team. Currently, there are no plans or discussions regarding a transfer in winter or summer. Liverpool also have no intention of pursuing a swap deal involving Aurélien Tchouaméni at this stage.”

Gravenberch has been a standout player for Liverpool this season, excelling in an unfamiliar role as a defensive midfielder. Initially, Liverpool had targeted Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi to fill the No.6 role in the summer. However, after Zubimendi declined a move, Slot opted to give Gravenberch an opportunity, and the Dutchman has since become a key figure in the starting XI.
