Liverpool fans express their thoughts on Federico Chiesa following the 2-1 Carabao Cup victory against Southampton.
Liverpool fans shared their thoughts on summer signing Federico Chiesa following his return from injury during the 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Southampton.
On Wednesday night, several top Premier League teams faced off in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Despite dominating for much of the game, Liverpool had to dig deep to claim a hard-fought win at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Making his first appearance in three months, Chiesa came on as a second-half substitute, replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also recently returned from injury. The Italian forward’s 45-minute cameo was enough to spark excitement among Liverpool fans on social media about his future at Anfield.
One fan wrote, “If we can keep Chiesa fit, we are winning every competition we are involved in.” Another added, “Chiesa’s quality is so obvious, it’s crazy, man.” A third commented, “Bright little cameo from Federico Chiesa here. Probably deserves a goal. Just had two shots cleared off the line.”
Another fan highlighted his potential, saying, “Chiesa is some player if we can keep him fit. So unlucky not to have a goal here.”
Although Chiesa came close to scoring several times—taking three shots, with one on target—his wait for a first Liverpool goal continues. Instead, it was Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliott who sealed the victory, with Cameron Archer scoring a consolation for Southampton.
Liverpool now awaits the results of Thursday’s clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United to learn their semi-final opponent. The Carabao Cup draw will follow Thursday’s match, with Arsenal and Newcastle United also advancing after their respective wins.
