Vinicius Jr reveals the only club he would consider leaving Real Madrid for as his remarkable transfer value is unveiled.
Vinicius Jr has identified the only club he would consider leaving Real Madrid for as he gears up for another major final with the Spanish giants.
The Brazilian forward has enjoyed a rapid ascent to the top of world football, capped by being named the best men’s player at the 2024 FIFA Best Awards on Tuesday night. This achievement comes shortly after he controversially lost out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or to Manchester City’s Rodri.
Vinicius received FIFA’s top individual honor during a ceremony in Doha, held on the eve of Real Madrid’s Intercontinental Cup final against Pachuca, also taking place in the Qatari capital. The match will be held at the Lusail Stadium, the same venue where the 2022 World Cup final was played, with Vinicius expected to start.
A victory for Real Madrid would mark the 14th trophy Vinicius Jr has secured since joining the club from Flamengo in 2018. His accolades include three La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies, two FIFA Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, a Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups.
With 96 goals in 286 appearances for Madrid, Vinicius has cemented his place as one of the world’s top players. His transfer value was recently set at €200m (£165m) by Transfermarkt, making him the joint-most valuable player globally alongside Erling Haaland. Under contract until 2027, Vinicius shows no signs of leaving Madrid anytime soon.
However, he has previously shared his future plans should he ever decide to leave the Bernabeu. Speaking to L’Equipe in 2023, he said:
“I think I could stay here my whole career, but the club of my life is Flamengo. I love life here [in Madrid], and it’s going well for my family. When my loved ones are out, they’re recognised and treated with kindness.
“Little by little, I’ve embraced this new life, new emotions, and the unique passion surrounding Madrid. Everyone around the world speaks about this club. Apart from that, I’m enjoying it here. I’m quite a homebody, but we still find time for many
activities.”
