Ruben Amorim expresses ‘displeasure’ regarding Alejandro Garnacho before the Spurs clash.

Ruben Amorim has shared his thoughts on Alejandro Garnacho’s reaction to being left out of the squad for the Manchester derby.

Both Garnacho and Marcus Rashford were excluded from Amorim’s matchday squad for the Premier League clash against Manchester City. Addressing his team selection at the time, Amorim told Sky Sports: “We evaluate everything—training performance, game performances, engagement with teammates, and how they push their teammates. Everything is considered when choosing players. It’s my decision, simple.”

Amorim confirmed that both players would have opportunities to fight for their place ahead of Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Spurs. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Garnacho has been recalled to the squad, while Rashford remains out after expressing his desire for a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Amorim was asked how Garnacho had responded to being dropped. “Really good,” he said. “[He] trained really well. He seems a little bit upset with me, and that is perfect. I was really happy because I’d feel the same way. He’s ready for this game.”

When asked about Rashford’s comments about leaving Manchester United, Amorim said: “If it were me, I’d probably speak with the manager. But let’s focus on Tottenham. It’s hard to explain what I’ll do. I’m a little emotional, so I’ll decide in the moment.”

Amorim also addressed concerns about ongoing team leaks, dismissing them as an issue. “These days, all coaches are aware of leaks,” he said. “I focus more on ensuring my players have a clear understanding of how to play than trying to hide the starting XI. It’s not something I can control, and I’m not worried a

bout it.”
