Liverpool could swoop in to secure Manchester United’s top transfer target, which would be a major setback for Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United might face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool in their pursuit of a key transfer target for 2025.

Ruben Amorim has made it clear that signing a new left-back is his priority, especially after United’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on November 24. According to Fabrizio Romano, Amorim has identified several potential targets, including Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. However, Liverpool appears increasingly likely to make a move for the talented Hungarian full-back.

Another notable name on the shortlist is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who has also been linked to Real Madrid. The 24-year-old’s contract with Bayern expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, allowing him to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs starting in January.

Bundesliga expert Christian Falk recently shared that Davies is open to leaving Bayern, with his agent, Nick Huoseh, planning to engage with interested clubs early next year. Falk noted that while Manchester United and Real Madrid are currently leading the race, Liverpool remains in contention due to their playing style, which suits Davies. Bayern is still hopeful of renewing his contract but has paused negotiations until January.

Mick Brown, a former scout for Manchester United, also confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Davies. Speaking to Football Insider, Brown mentioned that Liverpool scouts have been monitoring Davies closely. Despite financial competition from Real Madrid and other European clubs, Liverpool appears confident in their ability to strike a deal.

Brown added that Liverpool’s need for a left-back, especially with questions over Andrew Robertson’s performances this season, might drive their pursuit of Davies. If they fail to secure him, they will likely consider other

options.
