Fans are puzzled by a recurring decision Pep Guardiola makes in every match following Manchester City’s loss to Aston Villa.

Manchester City fans have expressed frustration over a recurring decision Pep Guardiola continues to make, particularly after their disappointing defeat to Aston Villa.

On Saturday afternoon, City’s poor form persisted at Villa Park as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Unai Emery’s side. Goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers secured a crucial win for Villa, propelling them above the reigning champions to fifth in the Premier League table. Phil Foden’s stoppage-time goal narrowed the gap, but Villa held firm to claim victory.

City supporters were especially critical of Guardiola’s insistence on keeping Ilkay Gundogan on the pitch during the match. Reacting on social media, one fan questioned, “Why can’t Pep replace Gundogan? He offers nothing in defense or attack and is slow to track back.”

Another added, “If Pep keeps relying on his older players like Walker, Silva, and Gundogan, they won’t win. They’re not at the same level anymore.”

A third fan wrote, “Gundogan and Grealish have done nothing in the second half, yet Pep keeps them on until the 70th minute or later.”

Others were equally critical, with one saying, “It’s all on Pep. Gundogan is asleep the whole game, yet Pep keeps playing him.” Another commented, “City will keep losing if they stick with Silva and Gundogan. Guardiola is to blame, and even Haaland could use a rest.”

Gundogan was eventually substituted in the 73rd minute for winger Savinho, but by then, City had already lost their grip on the game. The defeat saw them slip to sixth in the Premier League table, nine points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Meanwhile, former City goalkeeper Joe Hart, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, praised Morgan Rogers for his standout performance, saying, “Rogers is a joy to watch. He plays with intelligence, takes control of the game, and positions himself perfectly.”

City will aim to bounce back in their Boxing Day clash against Everton at the

Etihad Stadium.
