Liverpool manager Arne Slot opens up about the challenges of spending Christmas away from his family after making a difficult choice.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shared his experience of spending Christmas without his family following his summer move from Feyenoord to Anfield. While Slot has enjoyed a remarkable start with Liverpool, sitting four points clear at the top of the Premier League and maintaining a perfect record in the Champions League, his wife and children have remained in the Netherlands for practical reasons.

Slot explained that his family stayed behind as his children are completing their final year of school and preparing for exams, making it an unsuitable time for them to relocate. Reflecting on this, Slot admitted it was challenging to be apart during the festive season but emphasized it was the best decision for his family in the short term.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot contrasted his current situation with his time in the Eredivisie, where a winter break allowed him to travel to Dubai last year. Now, however, the Premier League’s packed festive schedule has him managing crucial matches, including hosting Leicester on Boxing Day and facing West Ham shortly after.

Despite the Reds’ impressive form, which has made them strong contenders for the Premier League title and seen them reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Slot remains grounded. He highlighted the difficulty of sustaining success in such a competitive league, stating, “The best way to judge the league table is after 19 games. Winning a league is incredibly hard; it requires so much to go right.”

While Slot has seamlessly transitioned into his new role, taking over from Jurgen Klopp, he acknowledged the personal sacrifices involved, admitting, “In an ideal world, you’re managing Liverpool with your family by your

side.”
