Liverpool fans believe Virgil van Dijk has decided on a new contract after a four-word message on Instagram.
The potential renewal of Virgil van Dijk’s contract has become a major topic among Liverpool fans, with many speculating that he has hinted at his decision through a cryptic Instagram post.
Van Dijk, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, has just six months left on his current deal at Anfield. The 33-year-old defender recently expressed his desire to continue playing at the top level, stating ahead of Thursday’s match against Leicester City that he is “very likely” to extend his stay, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
Adding to the speculation, Van Dijk posted a series of pictures from Liverpool’s Boxing Day victory over Leicester City with the caption: “The show goes on..”. While some fans think the caption refers to the thick Merseyside fog during the 3-1 win, others believe it signals his intention to sign a new deal.
Fans reacted enthusiastically on social media. One commented, “THE CAPTION???”, while another wrote, “He’s telling us already man.” A third speculated, “Van Dijk giving us a cryptic confirmation on Instagram that he’s signed a new Liverpool contract,” though others suggested it could simply refer to the game nearly being postponed due to the weather.
Speaking to The Times, Van Dijk expressed his love for the club and its fans, saying: “I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me, and it is a very good foundation to be successful.” He also mentioned his ambition to play at the highest level for another three or four years and his dream of becoming the first Dutch captain to lift the Premier League trophy, adding: “That’s what we work for as a
team.”
