Jamie Carragher advises Liverpool fans to watch out for a player who could potentially be signed as Mo Salah’s replacement.

Jamie Carragher has identified Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo as a player Liverpool fans should monitor as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

On Thursday, Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to seven points after a 3-1 comeback victory against Leicester City. Salah, one of the goalscorers, netted his 19th goal of the season in all competitions, bringing his Premier League goal contributions to 27 (16 goals and 11 assists).

Salah’s contract, set to expire at the end of the season, has been a significant storyline for Liverpool. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher suggested that Liverpool’s transfer strategy focuses on finding emerging talents rather than splashing out on high-profile signings.

“I think Liverpool’s approach is to target players who are slightly under the radar,” Carragher explained. “It’s not about replacing Salah with a £120 million superstar. They’ll likely go for someone younger, around 23 or 24, with good numbers and room to improve.

“With [Brentford’s Bryan] Mbuemo, the concern is that he’s overperforming on his XG, which suggests a potential regression. But you mentioned Richard Hughes, who knows Semenyo well from their time at Bournemouth. That connection might make Semenyo a player to watch.”
