Liverpool are prepared to secure an €85m striker following approval for Darwin Nunez’s departure.

Liverpool are reportedly open to selling Darwin Nunez during the January transfer window and have already identified their preferred replacement.

Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for around £85m, has struggled to live up to expectations and has fallen out of favor under new manager Arne Slot. Despite featuring regularly at the start of the season, he was later displaced by Diogo Jota after his return to fitness and is now being overshadowed by the impressive form of Luis Diaz.

Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that Liverpool are willing to entertain offers for Nunez, including a recent proposal from AC Milan for a loan deal with an obligation to buy in the summer. Slot is said to be unimpressed with Nunez’s performances in training and matches, which has led to his exclusion from the starting lineup.

Should Liverpool decide to move on from Nunez, they have identified Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram as their top target. While Newcastle’s Alexander Isak is also admired, his transfer fee is likely to be prohibitively high. Thuram, on the other hand, has a release clause of €85m (£70.5m), making him a more accessible option. Inter Milan are reportedly open to negotiating a fee close to this figure.

However, despite the speculation, any significant moves involving Nunez or Thuram are more likely to occur in the summer rather than during the January

window.
