Manchester United’s initial two departures for January are reportedly set as Ruben Amorim prepares to reshape the squad following a challenging start.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to loan out two players from their academy during the January transfer window.

The club, currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and just seven points above the relegation zone after 19 matches, continues to struggle. Their recent 2-0 loss to Newcastle at Old Trafford marked Ruben Amorim’s fifth defeat in eight league games since taking charge in November 2024.

Despite the transfer window opening two days ago, Amorim has yet to make any signings. Financial constraints caused by the £206.06m spent on summer recruits—including Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Leny Yoro—mean United must “sell to buy” this window, as reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News. Additionally, financial fair play and PSR regulations further limit spending options.

Amorim acknowledged the challenges, stating via BBC Sport: “We don’t have that possibility [to make signings] in January if we don’t take some players [out]… It is not that I am arriving here and know I can spend money changing the team.”

However, movement is expected, with reports from Manchester World indicating that United are prioritizing loan exits for two academy players: Harry Amass and Dan Gore.

Amass, 17, has been named in the senior squad five times but is yet to make his competitive debut. Gore, 20, has faced injury setbacks that have hindered his development. He has made two first-team appearances: in the 2023 Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace and the Premier League match against Aston Villa on December 26, 2023.
