Man City ‘weighing up’ surprise move for former Premier League star just months after his record-breaking departure from England.

Manchester City are reportedly exploring the option of a loan deal for a highly-regarded midfielder just six months after his move to a new club.

The defending Premier League champions have struggled for form recently, securing only two wins in their last 14 matches across all competitions. Pep Guardiola’s team currently sits sixth in the league after 19 games, trailing leaders Liverpool by 14 points, with the Reds having a game in hand.

A major contributor to City’s poor run has been the absence of Rodri, the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September. Since then, replacements like Mateo Kovacic, Rico Lewis, and Matheus Nunes have struggled to fill the void left by one of the world’s best in his position.

The January transfer window now offers Guardiola, 53, a chance to reassess his squad and bring in reinforcements. Players like Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimarães have been linked with moves to City. However, recent reports suggest the club is also eyeing Douglas Luiz, a former Aston Villa star.

According to Birmingham Live, City are “considering” a loan move for Luiz, who joined Juventus in June for £42.35m, as reported by BBC Sport. Despite his promising potential, Luiz has struggled to make an impact in Serie A, with just nine appearances and no goal contributions under Thiago Motta.

Luiz, 26, signed a five-year deal with Juventus alongside his partner, Alisha Lehmann, who also transferred to Italy in a widely publicized “couples move.”

Reports from Gazzetta in November claimed that Juventus would be open to letting Luiz leave in January if a serious offer was made. A temporary switch to City could benefit both sides—providing City with a much-needed short-term replacement for Rodri and giving Luiz a chance to rediscover his form in a league he knows well.
