Gary Neville disagrees with Arne Slot’s decision to allow Liverpool players to stay at home rather than in a hotel the night before home matches, a change that Virgil van Dijk has embraced.

Since taking charge in the summer, Slot has guided Liverpool to a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League, with only one defeat so far, and they remain unbeaten in the Champions League. While Slot hasn’t made many adjustments at Anfield, his new policy of allowing players to stay at home before home games has drawn mixed reactions.

Van Dijk, who has been ever-present in Liverpool’s league campaign, supports the change, stating: “Personally, I like to sleep in my own bed, be with my family, and it works out well for me. At this stage of my life, I prefer being at home as much as possible, and I have everything I need to recover and prepare.”

However, Neville, referencing his time at Manchester United, has expressed skepticism about this approach. Speaking to Roy Keane on Stick to Football, he explained the benefits of staying in a hotel, saying, “We loved it. It was a chance to switch on, ensure everyone got proper sleep, and avoid distractions like crying kids.”
