Kevin De Bruyne criticizes Man City fans despite 4-1 victory – ‘They need to back us more’

Kevin De Bruyne has called on Manchester City fans to “support us” following their 4-1 victory over West Ham at the Etihad.

The win, secured by an own goal from Vladimir Coufal, two goals from Erling Haaland, and a strike from Phil Foden, marked City’s second consecutive triumph after breaking a poor run of just one win in 13 games with a 2-0 victory over Leicester. De Bruyne described the performance as a “small step” forward but expressed disappointment with the crowd’s reaction.

When asked about the nervous atmosphere after Niclas Füllkrug pulled one back for West Ham, De Bruyne told Sky Sports: “I don’t know why. I understand we’re not at our best, but they should support us because we’re giving maximum effort and still winning 4-1. I don’t understand what’s happening.”

He acknowledged the team’s dip in performance but remained optimistic: “The level needs to improve, but we’re making progress. Against Leicester, it was better. We’re working hard, regaining fitness, and the team is improving step by step. It’s not easy, despite what people think.”

Manager Pep Guardiola echoed De Bruyne’s sentiments, admitting the team is still not at its best.
