Manchester United receive significant Viktor Gyokeres transfer advantage as ‘gentleman’s agreement’ is finalized.

Manchester United could secure a bargain deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, following reports of a “gentleman’s agreement” reducing his transfer fee.

Gyokeres was a key player under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, notably scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City in one of Amorim’s final games with the Portuguese club. Now at Old Trafford, Amorim has experienced a mixed start, with just two wins in nine Premier League games. However, a victory at the Etihad and a draw at Anfield have offered glimpses of promise.

Amorim may look to strengthen his attack in January, especially amid reports of a strained relationship with forward Joshua Zirkzee. Still, he might wait until the summer to pursue Gyokeres, who could be available for a fee of £58.6m to £62.8m—significantly less than his £83m release clause. This reduced fee stems from Gyokeres’ loyalty to remain in Portugal last summer, which was heavily influenced by Amorim.

The Swedish striker, who has netted an impressive 74 goals in 79 appearances for Sporting, could become a cornerstone of Amorim’s rebuild at United. A summer transfer appears more feasible, given Manchester United’s ongoing efforts to manage their Premier League Sustainable Revenue (PSR) requirements.
