Jamie Carragher believes Darwin Núñez’s time at Liverpool may be coming to an end, despite his match-winning brace against Brentford. The Uruguayan scored twice in stoppage time to secure a 2-0 victory, helping Liverpool extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. However, Carragher argues that Núñez’s inconsistency and struggles with finishing make his future at Anfield uncertain.

Signed in 2022 amid competition from Europe’s top clubs, Núñez has only delivered sporadically, with his hefty £64 million price tag often under scrutiny. While he boasts an impressive record coming off the bench, Carragher doubts his performances will be enough to secure his place in Liverpool’s long-term plans. Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I wouldn’t imagine he’ll be at the club next season. He has a brilliant record off the bench, which might be his role until the end of the season to help Liverpool get over the line.”

With Liverpool’s attacking options, including Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Luis Díaz, Núñez appears lower in the pecking order.
