Paul Scholes assesses 11 Manchester United players in a ‘keep or sell’ scenario, with two summer signings on the chopping block.

Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to offload summer signings Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee amid the team’s disastrous season. United currently sit 13th in the Premier League, having lost seven of their 15 matches under Ruben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag. Amorim recently labeled the squad as the “worst team” in United’s history and called for a major overhaul.

Scholes appears to share that sentiment, suggesting the club part ways with eight players, including De Ligt and Zirkzee, during a ‘Keep or Sell’ segment on TNT Sports. Despite goalkeeper André Onana’s recent blunder against Brighton, Scholes advocated for keeping him, stating: “I think there’s more to come from him.”

However, he was less forgiving with De Ligt, who joined from Bayern Munich in the summer. Despite recent improvements, Scholes said, “He’s done OK of late, but I think I’d sell.” He gave a similar verdict on Lisandro Martinez, despite the Argentine being one of the stronger performers: “The same, done OK of late, but I think I’d sell.”

Scholes also suggested selling injury-prone players Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, despite his admiration for both. He explained: “Really like the player, but unfortunately just never fit. Sell,” regarding Shaw. On Mount, he said: “Again, really like the player, just can’t stay fit, sell.”

Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner, was another player Scholes believes United should move on from, saying: “Been a fantastic player, but I think the time is right to sell.”

While advocating for significant changes, Scholes insisted the club keep young talents Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. He described Mainoo as “one of the brightest talents” at the club and said of Garnacho: “Still young, can still get better. Just about keep.”
