Liverpool suffer injury setback as Arne Slot reveals player will be sidelined for ‘a while’ following Tottenham victory.

Liverpool have suffered an injury setback ahead of a packed fixture schedule following their Carabao Cup triumph over Tottenham Hotspur.

Arne Slot maintained his strong start as Liverpool manager on Thursday night, leading his team to a dominant 4-0 victory over Spurs in the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield, securing a place in his first final with the club.

As a result, Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa has been rescheduled from March 15 to February 19, increasing their workload to six matches in just 17 days. With a game every three days, Slot will need to carefully rotate his squad, but he confirmed that one key player will be unavailable during this demanding period.

Following the win over Tottenham, Slot provided an update on his squad’s fitness, revealing that Tyler Morton will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

“He is competing with the other midfielders. He always gives everything he has. Tyler Morton is out with an injury for a while, so that means he was maybe our sixth midfielder and James is taking that position now,” Slot explained.

Having made two starts this season, Morton would likely have featured in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle but will now be out of action. Slot expects him to be unavailable for “four weeks or longer,” potentially opening the door for fellow academy graduate James McConnell to step up.

However, there was some positive news for Liverpool fans. Slot confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recovery is progressing well. While the right-back will miss Sunday’s match, he could return for next week’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

When asked about Alexander-Arnold’s availability against Plymouth, Slot responded: “No, I don’t think so yet. That’s going to be too early for him.”

Regarding the derby, he added: “Difficult to say. Like I said before, it’s not going to take months, not even weeks, but that game is just three days after Plymouth, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“We also have to consider the long term. Of course, we don’t want to take any risks with so many games coming up, but if he’s fit,

we will use him.”
