Manchester United fans were outraged just moments into Patrick Dorgu’s first appearance.
Manchester United fans were quick to react on social media just seconds into Patrick Dorgu’s debut.
During the January transfer window, United manager Ruben Amorim strengthened his squad by signing two defenders—Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.
On Friday night, Danish full-back Dorgu, who arrived from Lecce, was named in the starting lineup as United faced Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round at Old Trafford. However, fans were left puzzled moments after kickoff as Dorgu was deployed on the right flank instead of his usual left side.
Supporters took to social media to express their frustration. One fan wrote: “Dorgu at right-back, Dalot at left. This club will never be serious again.”
Another questioned the tactical decision, tweeting: “Dalot on the left and Dorgu on the right. I give up… why?! This is the dumbest decision this season. Dalot has struggled at left-back all season, and when we finally sign a left-footed wing-back, we play him on the right?!”
A third fan speculated: “This has got to be some sort of weird mind game. No way is he keeping Dalot at left wing-back when he has an actual left wing-back available.”
Others echoed similar concerns, with one writing: “Dorgu starting and Dalot inexplicably on the left AGAIN. Please help me understand, I’m already tired and the game has barely started.”
Another fan pointed out: “While Dorgu did play as a right wing-back at Lecce, persisting with Dalot at left wing-back given his performances makes very little sense.”
Speaking after his arrival, Dorgu expressed his excitement about joining the club: “I am incredibly proud to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my family. I can’t wait to work with Ruben Amorim. His vision for the team and the club’s future is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan for my development, and I believe Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfill my potential and achieve
my ambitions.”
