Gary Lineker shares Arne Slot’s true thoughts on Liverpool’s emerging star.

Gary Lineker reveals that even Arne Slot has been surprised by Ryan Gravenberch’s impressive performances for Liverpool this season.

The 22-year-old midfielder has thrived in a deeper role under Slot after Liverpool’s failed summer pursuit of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. Despite initial doubts, Gravenberch has exceeded expectations in the No.6 position, playing a key role in Liverpool’s unexpected Premier League title challenge.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker shared details of a private conversation with Slot, saying:

“Those two [Gravenberch and Szoboszlai] have been terrific this season. I think Gravenberch has been one of the surprises of the season. Even Arne Slot said he was surprised at how good he was when he arrived.”

After a quiet first season under Jurgen Klopp following his move from Bayern Munich, Gravenberch has flourished under Slot. His performances have earned widespread praise, with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher even comparing him to Patrick Vieira and suggesting he should be considered for the Player of the Year

award.
