Mo Salah’s close friend Dejan Lovren reveals details about Liverpool’s contract dispute and the reasons behind the delay in signing.

Mohamed Salah’s close friend, Dejan Lovren, has shared his thoughts on the Liverpool star’s ongoing contract standoff amid growing transfer speculation.

With Salah’s current deal set to expire this summer, the 32-year-old has yet to agree on new terms with the club. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of the season, adding to speculation about their futures.

Salah continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, particularly after Al Ittihad’s failed attempt to sign him in 2023.

Lovren, who played alongside Salah at Liverpool for six years, believes the club has not shown his friend enough respect in contract discussions.

“Salah feels that certain things are lacking from the club’s side, and I hope the situation is resolved soon. But right now, he seems closer to leaving than staying,” Lovren told WinWin.

“I get the impression that the club doesn’t respect him as much as he believes he deserves, but that’s another aspect of the situation—what happens behind the scenes matters. He truly loves Liverpool and wants to stay, maybe even retire there.”

When asked whether Saudi Arabia could be Salah’s next destination, Lovren responded, “If he leaves, why not? The Saudi league is becoming more competitive. If Mo joins, he’d be one of the biggest stars, creating a huge marketing impact and attracting more fans.”

Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, has had a prolific career with the club, scoring 237 goals and winning multiple trophies. Despite being in his 30s, he remains in top form, having already netted 26 goals this season across all

competitions.
