The costly miss drew backlash from fans and led Slot to criticize Núñez’s reaction, accusing him of letting the mistake affect his work rate in the final 20 minutes. In response, Núñez took to X to defend himself, initially posting that he had been unlucky and highlighting how fans praised him weeks earlier for his match-winning goals against Brentford.

Notably, he reworded his statement after fans pointed out that his original phrasing, “until the last day I have to be in Liverpool,” could suggest he was eyeing a summer exit amid reported interest from the Saudi Pro League.

This isn’t the first time Núñez has sparked speculation about his future, having previously fueled exit rumors by wiping all Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram.
