Arne Slot has declined to comment on speculation regarding Darwin Nunez’s potential departure from Liverpool. The Uruguayan striker was reportedly a target for Saudi Pro League clubs in January, with Al-Nassr said to have explored a move before shifting focus to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa for £64m after learning Nunez was not available. AC Milan has also been linked with a summer move for the forward.

Nunez’s future remains uncertain as he struggles to secure a regular starting spot under Slot. His poor finishing has come under scrutiny, with just six goals this season, and he faced heavy criticism for missing an open goal in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa. Slot defended the striker but expressed disappointment in his reaction to the miss. Nunez later posted an emotional response to his critics on social media, and Slot confirmed he planned to speak to him about his behavior.

Ahead of Liverpool’s match against Man City, Slot refused to discuss Nunez’s future but expects an improved response from the player moving forward. “We don’t discuss these things publicly,” he said. “He’s the same player who scored two crucial goals against Brentford. Strikers miss chances, but they also have the opportunity to be heroes more often. His reaction should have been better, and I hope he handles it differently next time.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, having previously admitted he turned down offers last summer. Slot was surprised by Alisson’s revelation but remains firm that the Brazilian will continue as Liverpool’s first-choice keeper this season. However, with the recent signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, he acknowledged it’s too early to determine how Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation will evolve next season.

“I wasn’t aware of Saudi interest in Alisson,” Slot said. “Maybe he only said he wanted to stay? Next season, we’ll assess our goalkeeping options with Alisson, Caoimhin Kelleher, Vitezslav Jaros, and Mamardashvili all under contract. For now, our focus is entirely on Man City.”
