European giants are eager to sign a Liverpool star who is available for transfer.
Atletico Madrid are in the market for a new striker next summer, with Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez among their top targets.
Sources close to the situation have told CaughtOffside that Diego Simeone is a big admirer of Nunez as he looks to reshape his attacking options. The Spanish club made a major signing last summer by bringing in Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, but with Antoine Griezmann’s future uncertain, they are now exploring further reinforcements.
Alongside Nunez, Atletico are also considering Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Wolves’ Fabio Silva, who is currently on loan at Las Palmas. However, Nunez is seen as a realistic option, as Liverpool are open to selling the Uruguay international following his inconsistent performances at Anfield.
A move to La Liga could benefit all parties, with Nunez potentially rediscovering his best form after shining at Benfica, while Liverpool would have the opportunity to revamp their attack. New manager Arne Slot has been openly critical of Nunez recently, suggesting he may prefer a fresh option up front.
While Nunez has had some standout moments for Liverpool, his lack of consistency has left his future in doubt. Atletico could provide a better environment for him to thrive, though they are also weighing up other targets like Mateta and Silva. Wolves have been open to loaning Silva out, which could indicate a willingness to sell, whereas Palace will likely fight to keep Mateta given his impressive recent displays.
