Fabrizio Romano has reported that Joshua Kimmich is now increasingly likely to remain at Bayern Munich following positive progress in fresh contract extension talks.

For months, the German midfielder’s future has been uncertain, with top European clubs, including Arsenal, keeping a close eye on his situation. With his contract set to expire in 2025 and Bayern initially withdrawing their first offer, it appeared the 29-year-old could be on his way out. However, today’s discussions have reportedly shifted momentum, with all parties now open to a new deal.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has also confirmed that negotiations are advancing, with Bayern and Kimmich’s representatives working on finalizing the terms. Just weeks ago, his departure seemed imminent, but the latest developments indicate he could remain a key figure for the Bundesliga champions.

Despite nearing 30, Kimmich remains one of Bayern’s most dependable players, having already played 37 matches this season, providing 10 assists and accumulating nearly 3,300 minutes in all competitions.

Several Premier League clubs had been preparing to make a move if he became available, but with contract talks now progressing positively, their chances of signing him appear to be diminishing.

After Bayern’s recent win over Leverkusen, Kimmich addressed the speculation, stating that he had initially planned to make his decision before the international break.

“My plan was to decide before the international break,” Kimmich said in a recent interview.

“They wanted a decision before the two games against Leverkusen. My injury complicated things slightly, but a decision will be made soon.

“I’m not sure if it will happen between the two legs against Leverkusen, but it will definitely be settled before the international break.”
