Liverpool is preparing to offer a swap deal featuring Ibrahima Konaté in exchange for a Real Madrid star.
Liverpool are currently managing contract negotiations for several key players, with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all approaching the end of their deals. If no agreements are reached, they could leave as free agents.
Ibrahima Konaté also faces an uncertain future, as he has yet to extend his contract despite an offer from the club. According to Defensa Central (via Teamtalk), if Liverpool fail to secure a renewal for the French defender, they may propose a swap deal involving Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
Rodrygo has impressed once again this season under Carlo Ancelotti, recording six goals and five assists in 23 appearances. Despite his versatility across the front three, his contributions are often overshadowed by bigger names like Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Vinícius Júnior.
With Real Madrid seeking a new center-back and Konaté among their targets, Liverpool could use this as an opportunity to negotiate an exchange for the Brazilian attacker. Meanwhile, Madrid are also keeping an eye on Arsenal’s William Saliba.
Konaté has played a vital role in Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad, forming a strong defensive partnership with Van Dijk and contributing to the team’s success in both the Premier League and Champions League. However, with his contract expiring in 2026, Liverpool may need to make a decision this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.
Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo could also signal preparations for life after Salah. The Egyptian forward has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, and while he has expressed a desire to stay, disagreements over contract terms could push him towards an exit.
Additionally, Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing another “outstanding” Liverpool player alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.
