“Huge setback for Liverpool as Arne Slot provides double injury update before cup final: ‘I didn’t expect this.'”

Liverpool set to be without Trent Alexander-Arnold for Carabao Cup final against Newcastle

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is now expected to miss the team’s crucial Carabao Cup final clash against Newcastle United this Sunday at Wembley.

The Reds, aiming for their first trophy of the season, will likely have to manage without one of their key players after Alexander-Arnold suffered an injury during their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking about the setback, Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted the situation looks concerning.

“He had to come off, which is never a good sign,” Slot told Metro. “From what I heard from those who saw the footage of his injury, it didn’t look good. So I’d be surprised if he’s available on Sunday.”

However, there was a more encouraging update on Ibrahima Konaté’s fitness. Slot suggested the defender’s withdrawal was more due to fatigue than a serious injury.

Alexander-Arnold’s absence will be a major blow for Liverpool, but they will still be confident of their chances against Newcastle. Despite their Champions League exit, the Reds remain in a strong position domestically, leading the Premier League and still in contention for multiple trophies.
